Totally confused about the baby plot. William? 2001? Why don't I remember this?

You had probably stopped watching by then because the last two seasons were...not great, but Scully and Mulder had a baby at the end of season 8 (unclear how William was conceived because Scully was supposed to be barren). Scully gave up the baby for adoption in season 9 to keep him safe.

There was some weird cult that were protecting her or something while she gave birth, right?

I'm watching the 3rd show now and to me it's great. So true to the old series, but updated in great ways that really play to their characters.
