Not great. Crappy benefits. Good jobs for people with high earning spouses, and the independently wealthy.

No tuition benefits either.

Most of them have some tuition benefit, not just as much as they used to have.

You are basing this on...? My experience has been the opposite.

What teachers who work there tell me.

I know someone who works at STA and he told me there is free tuiton for his kids.

Sta is the exception on tuition.

not much change for the past 6 years for MCPS teachers. On paper there is a slight raise. The take home amount is almost the same. Now that we have to pay much more for insurance, the take home amount I am making is a bit less than what I used to make 6 years ago ...

And how many schools are covered in that pool? Unless you can cite data that comes from a survey of one of the organizations that area independent schools belong to, this is anecdotal. Stating it as fact just creates a misperception that most teachers are receiving perks that they are not.

Teachers who qualify for FA will get FA.

Teachers who do not get nothing in the way of tuition benefits.

One school uses the spouse's salary (not their employee's salary) to calculate FA.

Sidwell at least used to do this and as far as I know still does. Also gives very generous FA to teachers who qualify this way.

My DC, who is a student there, has had teachers with college teaching experience. There are also former lawyers and other professionals there. They definitely do not require the type of credentials the public schools do.

I don't know the salary scale but teachers tend to stay a long time so I assume salary plus benefits plus atmosphere make it a pretty desirable place.

I am a former DCPS teacher turned IS Teacher. I took a pretty small payout and the benefit to leaving DC was worth it. I have peace of mind. My child is at my school (one of my benefits is discounter tuition). I am overall happier. I can teach with the politics and nonsense that came with my DCPS job.

You stated "no tuition benefits" as fact. That is untrue.
