My neighbor had to put her new HVAC system on her CC

Because she complains to me all the time how she can't afford things and then makes repeated stupid financial choices. It's really annoying and I wouldn't care if she'd just stop talking about it. Our kids ride the bus together so I'm forced to see her. I have to smile and be like, "mmm, yes, that is terrible!"

How can it be annoying? You seem to get such a big sense of self-satisfaction that feeds your sense of superiority and allows you to be arrogant and condescending, even if it is only outside of her hearing. You clearly derive a lot of pleasure from this acquaintance.

I'm in no position to judge anyone's poor financial decisions, but I do try to rein in my own. We recently spent some money we didn't have on an exterior project needed because (1) we don't want to piss off our neighbors by letting our house go to sh*t; and (2) the general embarrassment of living with something so obviously in need of fixing. Maybe that home improvement was our "luxury car lease" - I don't know. We're not at all handy and we're both strapped for time so attempting a diy was not an option. So, I justified it for myself but someone else could easily find it foolish.

Yes and apparently living in this area also REQUIRES a luxury car.

I have a coworker who is constantly borrowing money from other coworkers for lunch, trying to sell us random crap, can't put $60 in her retirement each month to get the company match, freaking out over money, etc. but she is very proud of herself because she doesn't use credit cards. but then she buys a $200 bag or buys her son an Xbox or $100 shoes and she doesn't see the problem. It is unbelievable. She lives in nova and grew up in moco.

This. If you can put it on the card, why not?

I put my AC on my Amex. I also put my deck and patio which was a 50k job. I also just put 5k in airline tickets on it for spring break. OP would have a field day with me if I were her neighbor.

Yes, I would too but that's clearly not the situation OP was talking about.
