So it's ok to rag on some life choices (SAHM vs. WOHM, BF vs. FF), not not others (religion)??

Yes, or more specifically, no one other than you should ever be offended. That is this site's new mission statement.

Awww - I feel honored.

During the 1960's -1970's Jesus Freak was a name for a movement - see Forever Family where in a hippieish fashion people lived in communes [usually old houses in urban areas] - maybe 30 plus people in a row house. Handed out tracts [like Moonies] etc and left mainstream and counterculture [hippie] society. A person I knew joined that movement and they did refer to themselves as Jesus freaks. Those people would be in their sixties or late fifties now.

As discussed else on DCUM, just because a term was not originally offensive does not mean it can't later become offensive. I don't know any 21st century devout Christians who refer to themselves as Jesus freaks. OP clearly didn't mean her DD was a member of the 1960s movement you describe.

Settle down. I saw the term Jesus Freak. That is a term embedded in US history and defined some cults ie Forever Family. Referring to her as a Jesus Freak does mean something far beyond devout.

People left their homes and colleges etc to have communal living. Worked for almost nothing to support their leaders. Why deny that the movement existed and flip out since I posted historical reference for the term?

I'm not a Christian, so this term isn't offensive to *me*.

However, before I use any descriptive term here, I ask myself if I would feel comfortable using that term out loud to a member of the group I'm describing. I would not use the term Jesus Freak to any Christian I knew because I would worry the word 'freak' would offend them, even if they knew I was referring to a certain fringe type of Christian.

Therefore, I think the change Jeff made in the thread title to be a good one, describing what the OP was referring to and yet not insulting in the way a term with 'freak' in it would.
