TV Over Fireplace

We also have an open floor plan and a fireplace. We put the t.v. on a rolling stand in the closet. It only comes out to play when we need it. Otherwise it's outta sight and outta mind and we read books or play games or ...

One wall is all windows and the wall with the mantle has windows on either side, so the TV would not only be off center, but block windows. The third wall is the side of a staircase and a traffic area that will not work. The "back" of the family room area is the kitchen.

I feel your frustration. We have an open concept living room plus a big sectional so literally the only place to put our tv is in a corner that blocks 90% of the only window (other than glass back patio door). I freaking hate it but dh refuses to mount the tv over the fireplace. It sucks and one of the many reasons I've grown to hate our home.

OP here....I'm with you. Love the new house otherwise, but do wish there was another way. It is a new build, so everything is at least pre-wired for over the fireplace.

How about along the wall of the Stair case, on a low fixture?

Mount it as low as you can if you do without the heat potentially damaging it. Also, 70" is huge, hope your viewing distance is pretty far.

That wall is too small and cuts into the flow of the staors.

I am pretty set on 60", but I am going with a 4k set, so the viewing distance would be no issue regardless.

This. Also, it's not about the size of the space over the fireplace, but more about the distance between the TV and the furniture that you plan on using to watch. Once you figure that out, go to a store and stand back the distance between where you plan to hang the TV and where you plan to sit and figure out size that way. Otherwise, you get a distorted picture.

Ugh no. We watch our fireplace in the living room and our TV in the basement. But now with all the devices we can easily watch whatever on the iPads and watching tv/movies becomes a special thing for whiCh we go to the basement and settle in on the couch (cheapo and comfy).

Not much in a 60. 55, 65 and 70 are most of the options for good sets. Unless your viewing distance is really far, which I doubt it is, I would spend the money on a 55 and get a better TV than spending more money just on size.

And by the way, there is virtually zero content right now in 4K. So don't get caught up in that,

We have a TV over the fireplace and I love it. I was really really against it before. You have to see how the viewing space is. Ours is in a room with 3 walls - open to the kitchen on the 4th - and we have a sectional that fills up the other wall and actually works out perfectly. TV is 55 inches. It is a really cozy hang out space and works perfectly. Would not of worked in our old house.

We just bought a 60 inch. There were plenty of options.

We like to enjoy the warmth of the fire while we watch TV, so it wouldn't make sense to have them in separate rooms. I don't really want to have to go into the basement just to watch TV.

Forgot to say, our family room has a fireplace and our living room does not, so it makes sense to have the tv in the room with the fireplace.

Yeah, plenty mid level Samsung or other Korean stuff. The higher end, better sets, are either 55 or 65. I am telling OP to get a better set in 55".
