best guess for winter break 2016-17

Anonymous
Easter is very late next year and the proposed spring break is the week after Easter.

Why can't they do a 5 year calendar? It's inane that every year they cannot get a calendar out until the end of the current school year.

DCPS doesn't do 5 years at a time. They do fits and starts depending on what polls best. Including their calendar.

Can't go out further than whatever contract WTU is under. Those dates are negotiated.

Also, see that spring break is nearly the end of April. That's a loooooong stretch between winter and spring break.

Agreed.

+1. The PARCC results for DCPS are atrocious and yet they want to give 2 weeks off? Plus do they realize that the week prior to the break and the week after they return are usually frittered away with non instructional activities. What a joke.

I like that we have two weeks of Winter break.
I agree with you that end of April is too late for spring break !

Same here.

My kid needs the long Winter Break, and so do I.

They go to school same as every other urban and suburban district. Oh and there's this thing called a union.

I wish it started a week later. High school kids have to be back a week before school for fall sport tryouts. Wish they would drop a week in December and start back on aug 28

Why because the kids don't need the time off or is it inconvenient for you?

Unions are the best! The DCPS teachers who are union are the best trained, best educated, most certified educators EVER. I read DCUM and I have learned that the problem is not the union, rather (i) non-union charter schools and (ii) DCPS administration. We should let DCPS teachers and the union make all decisions and everything would be better.
