Anyone ever have any luck with self help books?

Maybe you're right. We stayed with these crazy friends over the summer and that was the only kind of book they had on their shelves - and the shelves were full!

I hate non-fiction so I generally only read self help kind of books.

I love books on Budhism... Right now I am reading Buddhist boot camp.

Love languages book... But the one for teens.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
A bunch of books on communication, but mostly for work.
7 habits of highly effective people.

Didn't the Rules authors end up divorced?

I prefer self help books to counseling. My counselor sucked. The information you get from self help books is way more helpful, and you can read books by experts, for a lot cheaper than what one counselor can tell you. I don't know why people look down on those who read them. It's just psychology and you know yourself better than anyone, so you can choose books that relate to your specific problems.

A ton of teenager parenting books helped me.

I read the Rules as an early 20s - am now 35. A lot of it was crap, but there were a few useful gems in there.

I just read this book too. I think the ideas are great and you should try to follow these rules. Think about your life and what you can do to make it better. If you want your life to be different this year, then you need to do things differently than you used to.

When I was a teen the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series helped me a ton with confidence issues. They have them for adults as well but I haven't read them.
