Moving to MoCo over the summer - magnet programs

Yes. OP, chances are extremely small (like practically non-existent, regrettably) that your child will be able to get in to the MS magnet, since at best your child would get on the waiting list and that barely moves. You can't enter the magnet after 6th grade, so your best bet is to bide your time and apply to the HS magnets. Not saying not to pursue TPMS or Clemente, but just realize that it is most likely not going to work out.

Not true. My child was admitted the summer before sixth grade, when we moved here from out of state. To the program and not the wait list.

They must have had a space open up at the right time (lucky timing). I doubt they added a seat for your child.

OP, I would speak directly with the magnet coordinator for the magnet school your DC would apply to. I would not rely on the information given here on DCUM.

Speculation. Maybe they did add a seat for a child who tested in the requisite range.

You could just move into the real Potomac parts and get zoned for Churchill and not worry about any of it. You will like the area better too

If there was a specific score cut off that got you a seat but there is not

Do you know OP? How do you know OP would like the "real" Potomac better? I looked at the "real" Potomac when we were looking to buy. I didn't like it better.

You didn't like Potomac better than Rockville? You either weren't looking in the right parts, couldn't afford the right parts or are weird.

Preferred both Rockville (older areas) and Bethesda to Potomac. Why in the world would you think there is only one desirable place for everyone to live?

NP here. Pray, what is the real Potomac? I can walk to downtown Bethesda in 5 minutes from my house, and do not love Potomac, where you have to get in your car for every single errand.

I would like to know what the "real Potomac parts" are, and also what the "fake Potomac parts" are.

Churchill won't meet the same needs that e.g. Blair does.

Moving at the same time, my kids are older.

My oldest child will be entering 9th grade. I have pretty definitive testing for her. SAT scores above 700 in all 3 sections when she took the SATs last year, high IQ scores, extraordinary PARCC scores - and we were told that it was unlikely she would get a spot in a HS program because she missed the testing. Maybe it is different for the lower grades? Thinking about targeting B-CC area for the option of IB.

My younger child (seems to be on a high, although maybe not quite so high path) will go to the neighborhood school for middle school and then test for HS if he wants to.

FYI- from what we have gathered, it seems to be a little easier to get into VA programs if you miss "official" deadlines.
