Female, 43, engaged.
I like smart, funny guys and to be honest, when I was younger I really liked older men. I got my MA in my early 20s and started teaching undergrads while working on my doctorate. I tended to get crushes on the brilliant visiting professors. I completely hero-worshipped them, doted on them, and never expected anything to actually happen.
I guess it's a combination of having one married professor seriously hit on me and getting closer to their age that made me grow out of it. I got married and it never happened again.

This is interesting. I am early 30s and have always been really attracted to much older guys...15-20 years older. I wondered if this was something that is outgrown, or if the age range just gets higher as the years go on....

I wrote this. For me it didn't. At 17, I had a crush on a teacher who was late 40s-early 50s and my preferred age range stuck there. I grew out of the crushes and started dating men my own age, but I still found the guys in that age range the most attractive. I just got closer and closer to them in age. Now, I'm no longer at an age where anyone would pathologize it.

Are they the confident, mature, smart, and incredible lovers we envisioned them to be??

Yes! I feel like late 40s-early 50s has been my lucky range when it comes to men.
