You paid $4000/mo for an in home daycare |
| $50 each for 3 teachers. |
| People on here are really generous! We do $15-20 depending on how many teachers there are. I know a few daycare workers personally (all work in the suburbs) and they say that's more typical. There will be a parent or two who gives in the $100 range, but that's the exception more than the norm. |
| We give $100 per teacher. That's the norm at our center too. A $15 gift card is offensive IMO. These people take care of your kids all day every day. |
| Outside my husband and child, there's no one else more important on my gift list. Of course I'm going to be generous with them! They care for my child and are absolutely wonderful. |
| WHOA! I put together a nice gift bag with a few small items (comfy socks, lotions, etc.) Didn't spend more than $15 per bag for 4 caregivers. Wish I could give each teacher $100, but that's just out of the question. I'm not even spending that much on each gift for family. |
| What do people give if your child is in a half day program (4 hrs/day for 3 days) in a preschool? Is $15 per teacher ok? |
This blows my mind also |
|
We give $100 each for 2 lead teachers and $50 for the afternoon teacher.
One child, full time in center. |

I'm the room mom for a close-in burb center with a long waiting list.
It's amazing how cheap people are. I get that things can be tight, but like one PP pointed out- these ladies are with our kids more during the week than we are. And at centers, even with exorbitant tuition - there isn't a trickle down. These workers are not making very much money. I ended up throwing in close to $300 so that both of the main teachers and the two floaters could have a respectable gift. |
I know right? You could easily have a nanny. |
| How do you figure out what is the 'norm' when everyone gives individual gifts? I don't want to be seen as cheap, but I have no idea what to gift. |
I feel the same way. I'm hoping DH will agree with $50 per teacher (2 teachers). I have a feeling he'll try to convince me that's too much. We did $20 per teacher when we were at a large center with big classes & more teachers per class. |
| Our center collects for a holiday gift fund that's distributed among teachers. We gave $250. |
You have no idea what people's financial situations are on this board. We don't have an extra $300 to give to the caregivers at our child's center. We pay the cost to send him there and we were able to pull together a little extra to buy a small gift and include a nice card for each of them. That doesn't make us cheap, it's what we could afford. So keep your uninformed, insensitive, judgmental thoughts to yourself. |
