| What's she going to investigate? I mean the Adnan case is so so so cm |
Sorry cut off. It's so complex! There are tons of podcasts still digging into the case (listen to Undisclosed if you aren't already). I don't even get the mystery here. Especially since Bowe himself tells us what happened. |
I get the mystery. Was it as he said it was or part of a plot to aid the enemy? Why would anyone make up such a preposterous story OR why would anyone carry out such an audacious act? Was he brainwashed and turned into secret agent for the Taliban? I also thought it was just a dumb stunt, but I was bothered by the way he depicted being captured. She throws out a scenario and he says "pretty much." Unlike Adnan Syed, Bergdahl can listen along and comment to the media. I wonder if he's signed a contract to say he wouldn't. |
Agreed. She also sounded so kooky when she said "that's me! Calling the Taliban". She doesn't sound too serious about it... If she is able to confirm that Bergdahl was undercover for the Taliban or anything along those lines, I would be shocked, considering that the U.S. Army and intelligence would be evaluating these same things and aren't likely to declassify information for SK. I predict it will present all the sides of the controversy with lots of interviews (and likely some key people will refuse to be interviewed), and then she'll have N uncertain conclusion at the end of the season without much resolved, and the public will listen and dig in deep to their conviction about what Bergdahl was up to, and separately, just like in the Adnan Syed case, the justice system will slowly turn its wheels on the case and he'll either be charged or not... |
| So he's actually not planning to speak to her directly. She's just using the tapes of his convos with that producer. He agreed that she could. His agreement essentially allows Serial to investigate his case. Why would he agree if he wasn't innocent? |
| I wonder if she feels any responsibility for today's news about the court martial. Seems likely the extra publicity this provides severely hurt his chance at no prison. He could face life in prison now, and it might be more than a little bit her fault. |
I was thinking the same thing. |
The post and times both wonder if he screwed himself by agreeing to the very public release of these tapes. This is going bad for him very fast. One thing I think we'll see about the army - they aren't amused by the same civilian antics that the whole Adnan being a murderer inspired. |
| I loved the first Serial installments and agree that the complexity of the case made it a great fit. This one? Dunno...I will listen as I love Sarah Koenig but I'm indifferent to Bergdahl...he comes across as a kid who had mild mental illness from jump who's now undoubtedly effed from the fallout of his actions. I'm also largely unsympathetic to those who thoughtlessly endanger others. With all the stuff those guys deal with over there, I can't imagine this on top of everything else. |
| I hope for his sake serial stops and maybe that gives him a better chance to fight this outside of any media bias, real or perceived. |
| Will the new episodes be released on Thursdays? I haven't seen anything about when they'll run... |
i binged on like the first 9/10 eps of serial's first season and then the last few i had to wait for weekly. the new one, since i subscribed, would be in my queue thrus a.m. i'm guessing the schedule is the same - weekly on thrus. |
| New episode drops tomorrow...wonder if she will address. I really can't imagine they will continue if it might result in him getting a harsher sentence. |

Apparently the new one is out, but I haven't listened yet and just finished the first one. I agree it seems initially like it's not as captivating as the first one (not as juicy without the sex and romance stuff; too much in the news) but I'll give it a shot.
Like others, BB seems like a dumb kid to me and I'm confused as to why this is such a big scandal (other than the issue of whether we were stupid to exchange Taliban prisoners for him). So the whole question is - why did he leave? Why do we even really care? Even if there WAS something he was very concerned about (I assume we will find out what that was), he obviously went about it in the wrong way. Even the first ep made him seem like a bumbling idiot - "oops, I forgot to look at the compass!" - and even if he WAS with the Taliban, which I doubt he is savvy enough to pull off, is there any evidence that he gave them any info? |
