4 days in June- Madrid or Barcelona?

Barcelona is too far and there's too much to do for a day trip from Madrid. If you could spend a pair of days in both cities that would give you a good flavor of both. You really can't go wrong - both are great.

Barcelona, no question.

Madrid is only a few art museums and parks.

Barcelona is everything and anything. Gaudi! Swoon!

That would probably be too much moving for folks in their 60s and 70s, I would think?

Will be with my parents, they are 60s-70s but quite mobile. Cost being equal, which city would you rather pick and why? They will go to art museums if I bring them, but are not art people.

definitely Barcelona. And Barcelona is certainly not a day-trip from Madrid! Barcelona has lots of non-art gallery stuff to do and it is a beautiful, fun city. I don't really understand the "more Spanish" thing about Madrid - perhaps it could be said that Barcelona is "more Catalan" - I think Barcelona just has a different feel.
