I think my goldfish may be depressed.

If this is not a joke it should be a crime.

There are so many serious issues that deserve our attention, our sorrow, our prayers and you want a solution for a depressed gold fish?

GET A LIFE!

I think it should be a felony with mandatory jail time. Forget making it a misdemeanor.

Also, OP, I strongly recommend checking into the possibility that your goldfish is not a "she". If you've been calling him a she, he's probably depressed due to a gender identity crisis.

Try places a few frozen peas in the bottom of her bowl. This is the only cure I am aware of for goldfish who seem out of sorts.

So what are you doing to solve all these serious issues?

I had a goldfish once-his name was Elmer. Everyone assumed I had named him after Elmer Fudd but the truth was I was a big Elvis fan. Anyway, Elmer was always swimming around in his 3 by 5 bowl, happy as ever, kicking around the gravel and generally not complaining. One day, however, Elmer just sat still and wouldn't do anything. I put some food flakes in the bowl and he just sat there, not even leaping to the surface. I tried repainting the walls in my living room bright green-nothing. Then, one day, I realized his bowl faced my wide screen TV where for the last several weeks I had been watching a lot of Sopranos repeats. I quickly DVR'd Finding Nemo and Mr. Limpett and wouldn't you know it, Elmer perked right up and started swimming around the bowl like it was the Beijing Olympics. A few vitamin C pellets in the water didn't hurt either. I'll tell ya, it's all about attitude. PS-I also stopped steaming shrimp right in front of him-that seemed to help as well.

OP- This has been my favorite DCUM thread in a long time! Thanks for posting. I'm sorry your goldfish isn't feeling well. We all go through rough patches and I hope he/she feels better soon!

17:11- Get a life! If it bothers you so much, don't waste your precious time responding.

So sorry to hear that your goldfish is out of sorts.

I hope she doesn't live in a bowl. It's hard for them to get enough oxygen in a bowl and also bowls need to be cleaned out often due to waste. Have you tested the ammonia and nitrate levels in her water?

Why in the world are you asking for advice on an anonymous board????? That never ceases to amaze me. Call your vet or check the cdc website.
