What is your child's Kindergarten Size?

How can any public school guarantee a class size before school starts and they know what their enrollment is? Our FCPS elementary has 4 full day K classes and they range from 21-23.

Charter schools have a maximum size.

Where in Fairfax County has full-day K? I thought K was 1/2 day with plans to move to full-day in 2010 (although budget cuts may affect that plan). Do some FCPS have full-day K already?

Many FX Co. schools have full day K.

Most FCPS ES have full day K. If you go here:

http://commweb.fcps.edu/directory/

And search by Special Program > Full Day Kindergarten you can see the full list.

Is this private school? That is a nice #.
We got an estimate # of 26-28, we are going to the public school obviously.

MoCo public school. Oakland Terrace in Kensington.

Yes, but that's going to be something like 170 K students divided up into 10 or so classes, right? I hear they'll all be together for lunch and recess, and I just can't envision how that is going to work.[/quote]

It works just fine. Talk to other parents who have kids in the school. The kindergarten classes all have lunch/recess at the same time. There are multiple para-educators (like instructional assistants) with them at all times. In the beginning of the year, the teachers will stay with the little guys during lunch. The para educators have walkie-talkies with them outside and the kids are heavily monitored. O.T. is a great place to be

Because some FCPS elementary schools mandate smaller class sizes school-wide based on % FRM and/or ESOL.

So out of curiosity, for the open enrollment public schools with class maximums, what happens when they meet that max and still have more kids? Say there are 2 K classes with a max enrollment of 18 each and there are 40 kindergarteners? What do they do? Do they will have 3 classes of 13/14?

Yes, they will reduce the other classes so there is an even distribution of students across all the classes. When my oldest DC attended K, there were 16 students in the class.
