Retired parents-- any hopeful retirement stories out there?

OP, I get you. You are hoping and wishing your parents and more Interests and daily joy. My parents won't retire because they don't know what to do with themselves.

My ILs are very involved in church, in charities, gardening in the summer, volunteer work, see their friends a lot. DH says they are much busier now than when they were both working. I find the church the a little irritating because it means they only visit us during the week and not on weekends.

Who needs a relationship with God when they can a relationship with you, amiright PP?

op are your parents still living in a SF home? the issue may be in part that they don't have a social life outside of your kids. when my parents moved to a condo building with other folks their age, it really expanded their social life and was very good for them. they are generally pretty busy people anyway, with time-consuming hobbies, plus they exercise a lot - but the change of living situation was very good for them. not sure if your parents have shown any interest in that, but if they have maybe you can encourage it.

As long as they are not breaking any laws or hurting someone let them live their lives as they see fit. When I retire I plan on sitting my ass on my couch and watching lots of tv. However not cable news. Join a gym ugh not my cup of tea.

This. I didn't see see this from prior generations. I think it partly stems from our mobile society where kids no longer interact frequently with prior generations.
