Hello Fresh required too much work, but I'm not used to cooking. I have been tempted to try ScratchDC, but it looks like you still have to do a little cooking with them. I really just want someone to deliver a meal I can put straight into the microwave or oven.

You should check out Let's Dish. You can pick up ready-made meals, or prepare all of the ingredients in the store and bring them home for preparation later.

Dinner Done will prep the meal for you and deliver it to your door for $5. You can order a bunch in advance and keep them in your freezer, and the delivery fee is still $5. When I was on maternity, they saved me. Would just pop the foil main entree and sides in the oven and call it a day.

Here's the website: https://www.dinnerdone.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/Menus.Details/Location_ID/3

I think you can go to their kitchen in centerville and pick up stuff on your own, but I didn't have time for that. Delivery in DC is what I wanted.

I've tried Blue Apron, Hello Fresh and Marley Spoon. Liked Blue Apron and Marley Spoon's choices a lot more than Hello Fresh which seem very "starchy American" to me.

The reason we keep using Blue Apron is that once a week, my 13 year old cooks dinner. She's actually already a good cook, but having the ingredients, recipe and pictures right there is a huge confidence booster. She is really proud of all the things she has learned how to cook recently (calzones!) It's a bit pricey for my budget, but I look at it as grocery delivery and cooking lessons rolled into one.

I wish any of these services had the option to only order when desired rather than having to cancel/skip orders on a weekly basis. I would actually keep the account open and order more if I could manage it in that way.

I liked Power Supply a lot when pregnant - I was too tired to cook anything and it was a guaranteed healthy meal when I came home from work, just heat and eat. I do think it's pricey though, and it can get repetitive (I'm vegetarian so most of my meals were lentils and sweet potatoes, which can get old). I may start back up this winter though. I would guess you could get two XL meals if you want to feed the kids also, depending on how much everyone eats it could be enough. The regular size was fine for me.
I didn't care for the Blue Apron meals.

I have been using bluebird dinners for a month or so and we've been really happy with the quality and the quantity. A meal is really a complete meal, and is more than enough for me and enough for my big eating husband. I am a vegetarian and thy usually have one of those options a week. If they had veg options more frequently I would order more. All you do is heat it up!

We also really like Scratch, and use them about once a week.

I just tried galley and liked them a lot!

Galley was surprisingly tasty. A little salty, but very good. I'll use them again.

Peach dish does this! You don't have to subscribe. It's one of the reasons I prefer versus all the others.

This is OP. All this is very helpful. I'll check out the additional suggestions-- it's amazing how many options there are.

I thought the Blue Apron meals we got this week were delicious. And bonus-- my 6 yo and 8 yo each helped with one dinner. The cute packaging and clear instructions really helped them feel invested in the meal.

I may stick with Blue Apron for a while. I'll check out Dinner Done too, as I'd like a prepared meal service also (I'm pregnant) and wasn't so keen on Power Supply so far. I wasn't sure if they delivered to DC but I'll dig deeper.
