It's the same here in San Francisco. What people don't realize is that 99% of these bums just didn't lose a job or couldn't make a mortgage payment. Most of them are all either alcoholics, drug addicts or have serious mental health problems which were caused by the drugs or alcohol in the first place. I feel sorry for the 1% that actually wish to get better and off the streets.
And the public needs to stop giving them cash. It all goes to alcohol or drugs. Here in SF they get all the food and medical care they need for free paid for by the public dollar. |
imagine if this 'bum' were your family and your fam didn't want responsibility and showed him/her tough love by not helping their issue that lead to them being homeless and left them to deal with it (drug abuse, alcohol, etc) on their own. Would you consider yourself to be cold and unfeeling or sympathetic to that family member? |
i feel sorry for all of them. No one WANTS to be in that state. It can be anything from severe depression, a drug issue, lost job, etc. Humans need to start being kind to other humans. |
The one thing about Hawaii is the climate is gentle. But, housing prices are extremely high. Many beach parks (outside of the tourist areas) have homeless enclaves. This is actually a huge issue when dealing with natural hazards (e.g., Tsunamis), but based on the lack of fatalities in Hawaii in 2011, they got it down. |
Yes, the fact is many wish this life style. Very well known fact. |
Off topic, but reminded me of Puerto Rico shipping its drug addicts off to Chicago. YES I KNOW UNRELATED.

I judge negatively families of means that throw out troubled children who need professional help to become charges of the public and smugly justify it as practicing tough love. I feel differently if they don't have means to care for them or if they have truly made an effort but the person just prefers living a homeless lifestyle. |
I'm a regular on this board and comment as I please. |
I don't need to imagine. My father is homeless. You cannot help someone who chooses and wants to be an addict and homeless. For many this life is perfectly fine for them. Don't be naive. |
