Bi-racial child and elite schools

If you are a gay couple, that will be considered a plus.

OP is a troll. Everyone who is middle eastern (or married to one) would know that they are considered to be white.
Don't feed the troll, people !

No. It will not matter.

OP here.

Let me be more specific. I am South Asian and DH is white. I used "middle eastern" casually as most people don't know who South Asians are.

I'm pretty sure south asian/white kids count as bi-racial.

We are also a mixed-faith, multicultural, multilingual family.

I'm sure it will help that our child won't be a cookie cutter applicant.

Well OP, you obviously didn't grow up in a diverse area like DC did you? People here know the difference between South ASian and Middle Eastern. I've never heard a South Asian person refer to themselves as middle-eastern before....lol!

And yes, a kid who is half white and half South Asian is considered biracial.

Are you saying with a straight face that DC private schools are diverse culturally, ethnically and socio-economically?

Are you serious?

If you're so sure it will help then why are you asking?

Curious if others before us have had any similar experiences.

Out of curiosity, I just did a quick count of my child's private school classmates. 18% of the grade is "mixed race."

I assume you define "mixed race" as a child where the two parents are of different races, and do not include children with two non-white parents of the same race.

Your bi-racial child won't stand out based on racial heritage. Whether that's good news or bad news is up to you to decide.

Thank you for that information. What ethnicity are they?

These schools are very diverse. I don't believe this aspect of your family will be a huge distinguisher. Perhaps take the years between now and application time to do a lot of good in your community. Now that would mean something.

Asian may actually be a detriment.
I recommend you begin Kumon immediately to up your Tiger Mom cred.

Everyone is being mean because this is DCUM where cutting others down is a currency. They hide behind "anonymous" and spew out their aggression and venom in a way they would never ever do in IRL. For everyone say "you're an idiot middle easterners are white" while technically true ask someone with a bias what they think. I can understand why the OP may have a concern.

As to your question OP your child will not have an issue at the private elites.

All over the map. black-white, white-asian, white-south-asian, hispanic-black, etc.

That's wonderful to know. Our child will fit right in!
