Well, I think it's natural to worry when you know your kid is going into a potentially precarious situation.

That said, I just dropped her off and she seems to be in good company. Fair number of kids in costumes -- I'm kind of impressed to see it in the middle school set. Normally they are too cool for school.

Potentially "precarious" situation?? Being teased over a Halloween costume when you're in the 7th grade is now precarious??

Mom, you say she is shy and has confidence problems. Did you ever think that your over-stressing about things like this could be contributing to that??

+1.

You're supposed to be teaching her to not worry what others think about her, not tips on how to be cool.

Dummy, I did say that. I'm voicing my concern HERE, not to her. I'm happy she has the self-confidence, just worried it may be shattered. That's all.

NP. "Dummy"? Read your original post. "I said something and she's got a strange bout of confidence over the costume." What you wrote made it seem like you said something negative to her, to which her "strange bout of confidence" was a contrast. We can only go by the information you post. I think you owe the other poster an apology for calling them "Dummy," since they gave you good advice. Let's keep it civil, shall we?

In fairfax Co, at luther jackson halloween costumes were yesterday. DD went as a Demon. One of her friends went as a unicorn.

I said something and she's got a strange bout of confidence over the costume. "My costume is AWESOME" she said.

Going to be interesting at pickup.

Good for her!!!

If a kid wore a costume to my inner city school, it would be a precarious situation.

Not the OP but yes, it could be a precarious situation. A kids snaps a pic, puts on social media with nasty comment, lots of kids laughing on and off line. Happens quite a bit.

Middle school is rough and kids are mean.
