On the Road to Kingdom Come by Harry Chapin
All of his songs are stories and every one is more depressing and sad that the one before. |
| A lot of Shawn Colvin songs are really, really depressing. Much of what is on Sunny Came Home is just, whoa. Jewel's Pieces of You is pretty bleak in places. Springsteen's Ghost of Tom Joad makes me want to open a vein or two. The Psychedelic Furs, All of this and Nothing or Talk Talk Talk, partly because they're sad and also because they remind me of a time when I was sad. And on that note a special mention goes out to The Smith's Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, because of all the times I played it to wallow in, cry about, and/or transcend my unrequited teenage crush. Ah, love! |
My first thought as well |
|
| Springsteen, Tunnel of Love |
The Pink Moon got him... Pink Floyd -- The Wall |
| David Gray -- White Ladder |
| I tend to break out Fiona Apple or the Hope for Haiti album when I'm in a certain kind of mood. |
Yes. |
| Oddly, any album by the Carpenters. I think it's some personal recollections of a difficult time for me in the 70's, along with knowing what happened to Karen Carpenter. |
| Elvis Costello, Painted by Memory. |
Yes, she has a very beautiful but melancholy voice. |
What's the story? |
| Blue by Joni Mitchell was right up there. |
No one's in the lighthouse... |
