Why do people save or "favorite" homes on Zillow, Redfin, etc?

For comps to see how much it sells for.

When I was house hunting it was either to see if the price dropped or to see what the house ended up selling for out of curiousity (if for example I thought it was way overpriced or wondered who on earth would buy such an ugly house or anything like that).

Now, it's to keep an eye out for what is selling in the neighborhood and for how much (and seller subsidies, I love that you can see that on Redfin).

We have been keeping an eye on houses we may be interested in for years even though we don't "need" to move. We want to be ready to make the leap if the perfect house comes along. A few times a year DH and/or I peruse the real estate apps to see what's out there and bookmark houses for various reasons- we want to show the other the house or a specific feature we like, etc. Recently I had a friend moving into the area and bookmarked houses that might be a good fit in a specific school district for her.

Between DH and me we have probably bookmarked more than 100 houses over the past couple of years.

Same.

Same as others mentioned. I'm looking for similar homes, price drops, or I like the layout/style/kitchen.

I'm probably not buying anytime soon, but keeping my eye on what's available in the area I like. Trying to decide if it's worth moving.

how can you tell when other people have saved a house as a favorite? I can't seem to find that info

My friend is looking to buy a house, and she has favorited some homes that she likes but which are out of her price range. For location, features, whatever.

Where are you located, slow market? I'm guessing not au park or in DC proper? It's smoking here.

I realize neighbors might be saving the listing to watch for their own interest, but what about others? Waiting for the price to drop?

This is a slow market?? Pls tell me where this fabulous slow market is.

I am saving favorites for comps to see for how much a house would sell. Planning to buy in 6-12 months.

The OP posted in September 2015 so maybe the market was slowing back then because it was the end of the summer?

I have always over priced my house and I end up even in 07 with 95% or greater of my price. Hmmm.
I look at this who process this way. There are three parties involved for the most part. Prey, the Predator and the scavenger. Now the scavenger is always the realtor and you cant beat them away if you are the prey and the Predator will feed fist and let the scavenger have his way as long as the scavenger waits the feed out. The scavenger has no meat in the fire does not care about the pai or hunger of the other two parties and is there for a quick meal a regular bottom feeder.
Now you can be the prey or you can be the Predator. Both are predators to start out with and only one ends up feeding the scavenger the scaverner will do its best to see who wins and if it can assist the winning Predator. Dont care if the winning predator gets his fill or a partial meal because the scraps are his. So if the scavenger has to he will settle for less to get a quick fill.
So How do you beat this situation and take control for your own good. I have had realtors tell I am over priced in this area, even in hot markets so drop the price. WHY? I asked. Well its always there just aren't many people interested. Well I asked my self why do I care I only need one to buy at my price and I wont get him lowering my price and lowering it is blood in the water. I told him my price is just fine where it is Ok,I can wait was my answer and i sensed the anixt in their voices every time. NO QUIK KILL and I am hunger type response. I believe that one must, as a good predator be where the prey is. That means thinking out side the box. I am dealing with several scavengers right now. I alway plan to sweeten the pot. For example if I am selling my home and I and I can point out to the realtor a property that he can sell to me on top of this one. I the have the scavenger by the throat. Oboy says the scavenger two meals if I just can turn the buyer of this home and the seller of the other in to prey, of course he will do his best to make that happen. HE will become my best ally. I eat well he has two meals and the two prey meekly are sacrifice to us. I have had the scavengers tell my that they have PROSPECTS who have the money but dont need to buy. Ok fair enough is my response I love that type, sending the scavenger he is dealing with deadly prey who ill not bend to his trap of convincing me to give in. This is always preceded from the outset with me saying. Mr. scavenger I and I only will say how you will present my home, I am hands on and I will expect you to post pictures I wans and change the wording to that of which I want and I will seek your advice when i need it. Oh the pain i there face as the realize they are now prey in my eyes. They will jump though hoops to get your home sold cause you are dangerous to their well being.
I the tell them that I expect more than a lame posting on ZILLOW and then I tell them where when and how to market the property as I have scoured the possibilities of finding prey that will bite my bait, there there, I just have to show them how badly the want my bait. THere is more just remember to NEVER be prey and to take a bite of scavenger now and them to set the tone. If you have a property with very unique location you have great bait if not work hard on the features you have and find prey that loves that feature.
Good hunting there is alway prey available if you give up you starve.
