Any tricks for getting over a cold faster?

Cold-Eeze tablets seem to work great for me when the cold is first starting. I like to drink a lot liquids and orange juice. I can't stand cold medicine so I stopped taking years ago. I eat more carbs, too, and that seems to help.

Elderberry extract. Buy some and keep it in your medicine cabinet. Any time you start feeling scratchy throat or that fatigue feeling you get right before you're sick or even a stuffy nose, start taking it. It fights off a cold or flu. Taking it while sick might speed up recovery. I get my elderberry extract at whole foods or Amazon.

Manuka honey. They sell it at trader joes now.

When you're sick, mucinex, plenty of water, and sleep.

Zicam
Airborn

Plus whatever you need to get through the day - DayQuil, sudafed, etc.

Not sure if it reduces the duration of the cold, but warm chicken broth will make your throat feel better.

I Like chicken soup, but I also have success making a miso broth with several cloves of garlic pressed into it, then cut a bunch of italian parsley into it right before drinking. Miso broth is just hot water with a forkful of miso added.

Stay home please.

Saline wash/neti pot (I like the wash better)--not the saline spray
Airborne, as often as the directions allow
Zinc Lozenge (not zinc supplement)-- the zinc in the lozenge aerosolizes and is breathed into your lungs where it binds to the cold virus and doesn't allow it to replicate.

My regular cold remedy is...

Sudafed for nasal/head congestion (Make sure to get Pseudoephedrine, the one that you have to sign for at the pharmacy desk, not the replacement that you pick up off the shelf) or sometimes the Pseudoephedrine/Cetirizine (Zyrtec D) combo if I'm feeling the allergies/runny nose coming on. I get the 12 hour. These are the most important!

Guaifenesin (expectorant)/Dextromethorphan (cough surpresent) combo, usually Mucinex DM.

If my throat is hurting really bad, like REALLY bad like it's splitting open (gross!), I'll alternate ibuprofen and aspirin (take as many as 2 of each per 3-4 hours) + warm tea with honey and lemon (if I can stand it), and gargle with warm salt water as often as possible. Strangely, this actually helps it feel better right away and last for sometimes 30 minutes, as long as you don't rinse or drink anything. It's gross though!

I also take EmergenC a few times a day, starting at the first sign. I used to add a zinc supplement to this but it gave me a stomachache.

This doesn't last long, usually about 2 or 3 days. It's the only thing that gets me through the work day and allows me to sleep at night.
