Anyone else turn to prayer and hope for G-d only when sh*t possibly hits fan?

I was raised Catholic but I'd label myself agnostic these days. After five days of being up all night with a teething toddler, I said some hail Mary's and some our Fathers and even put in a plea to St. Jude (patron saint of desperate cases and I was desperate ) So, yes, I turn to prayer when I've exhausted all other reasonable solutions and the shit has hit the fan!

I used to be like that. And then my mom passed away. During the course of the year saying Kaddish everyday, I found a community at shul. Now I find comfort and pleasure attending each week. It's partly religious, part quiet reflection, and part social.
