It was a dump truck driver who is now in custody.

Do you have a source for this?

Anonymous wrote:Maybe now they'll deal with that strip of Commonwealth, which only has one narrow sidewalk on one side, which is obscured by a very large and unkempt hedge. I used to run a ton and that section of road was always scary, especially since it's an otherwise really safe road to run.

City of Alexandria is now updating its bike and pedestrian master plan. Contact a council member (any one - we do not have districts in Alexandria) and let them know that improving pedestrian safety is urgent.

Alexandria is so small. I feel terrible for this poor woman and her loved ones. I'm dreading finding out who she is.

+1 Exactly my thoughts.

One of the absolute worse intersections for a pedestrian, is Slaters Ln onto Rt. 1. If you're attempting to cross onto the bridge over the railroad tracks, despite lights and walk signals, drivers continually ignore them.

Whenever I run/walk that area despite having a walk signal in my favor someone only stops 1/10th of the time. Drivers never understand that even though your light may be green, you cannot turn (either left or right) with a pedestrian present.

Please update. Not seeing this anywhere else yet.

Truck driver was driving a construction truck, claims she didn't know she hit someone. Dropped her truck load off a few blocks from accident and then drove to Maryland. She was tracked down and is in custody. Someone on the rosemont listserv spoke with a police officer (they are all over the neighborhood) and was given This update and shared it on our listserv.

Please call your Council member or the Major and let them know we need safer streets for pedestrians and runners.

Thank goodness the driver has been caught. I drive that route every day but a little earlier than 9.

I bet it's that light. Nobody likes to get stuck at that light so they barrel through.
