I feel sick looking at the cost of healthcare for my family

I work for local government and pay $260/ month for a family of 4. Excellent coverage. Reading these posts I am grateful my employer has a good plan in place. $1300/month is a lot, almost unreasonable.

Family of four here: we pay $1500/month for aa $0 deductible platinum ACA plan, so it may be worth comparing prices on the open market...

Yeah, I work at s law firm, and since the "affordable" care act was passed my premiums for my family have almost tripled. We wanted to have a second child, but don't see how we could afford it now, looks like we are one and done.

And I bet that there are a lot more cost increases to come, both premiums and deductibles.

Turns out that it's not quite the Affordable Care that we thought after all.

Or maybe healthcare companies just raise prices because they're greedy bastards, and they can? Now they have the ACA to blame. How convenient.

Affordable Care? Where? What? When?

Our health insurance costs have gone up every year for 15 years, at a rate faster than pay. Blame the insurance companies. Can we go to single payer already and take out the necessity for insurance. Insurance should be an option for those who want boutique medical services.

I bet most of the twits on here voted for him, yet have the lack of insight to complain about their healthcare costs!

Now I'll wait for the sycophants to defend our dear leader and blame the repubs for all our ills.

Because the Republican plan would've been soooo much better? (Was there anything other than 'cut taxes' and 'repeal'?)

Well, ACA also got rid of lifetime maximum caps and pre-existing condition clauses, so yes, I am very happy for ACA. Those two things were bankrupting families that had huge medical issues, not to mention preventing my DH and I from getting private insurance as we are self employed. I find it ironic that a political party that supposedly encourages small businesses makes it so damn difficult to do so in so many ways.

PS. I didn't vote for Obama.

That actually sounds pretty normal for a non-HMO plan to me.

+1000
Premiums have had big increases every year since I've been working, many of which had nothing to do with ACA

My parent owns a company and is running into this too. For his 40 person company, health insurance went up 200k last year. 200k is a lot of jobs that he has to take to make that up! Small business margins aren't that big.

I think smaller businesses need to have a way to coordinate insurance with other small businesses the way large businesses are able to get cheaper rates.

I feel your pain. One thing I'll say is DC is one of the most expensive health insurance markets in the country. If your spouse is self employed, you may be able to get a high deductible plan with an HSA - still not great, but may be slightly better.

Law firms are so stingy with benefits.

Maybe it's because they're paying their lawyers $165K to start.
