Colposcopy (and after)

Anonymous
8:52- because this board is filled with people with knowledge about the procedure, who have had it or are medical professionals.

I have spoken to my doctor about it. I will heed her advice and am also interested in people's experiences.

Why do you bother writing if you have nothing meaningful to contribute?

OP here. Thanks. I'm sure I won't want to right away, and I'm fine with waiting. What I'm just wondering about is if the procedure goes ok, and after a week or a week and a half I "feel" fine, how do you know you'll be ready. Some clinical sites say 1 week, my doc said 2-3. This is where my confusion lies.

Your doc knows your history and specific circumstances. Also, her recommendation may change after the procedure depending on whether you have a biopsy and how extensive it is. Probably not a good idea to crowdsource this.

The doc has seen me twice and wasn't sure if I was a new patient or not last time I saw her (I do really like her, though).

She doesn't know me all that well. Yes, I will see how the procedure goes.

The colposcopy itself wasn't a problem. I did need a biopsy, and that was kind of painful, but nothing I couldn't tolerate. I cried a little and then it was over. I think the doctor used some kind of cauterizing solution on the biopsy site that caused me to have like a rusty-looking and -smelling discharge for a few days. It wasn't terrible but I would probably take a painkiller beforehand if I needed to do it again. You'll be fine.

What happens if I wait a week and half and it's too early?

I think it depends if they just swap you or if they do a biopsy. I'm the pp with the biopsy and I had to wait about a week or so to have sex again so that the little cuts from the biopsy could health and I wouldn't get infections.
You can probably get back to it whenever you feel like it or a few days of they don't take tissue for the biopsy.

I got very specific instructions from my dr regarding after care and such.

Thanks so much pps. I don't want it to sound like I'm only concerned with when I can have sex! I just don't want to unnecessarily wait 3 weeks, or wait a week and a half and have troubles. Will speak to the doctor further. Thanks for the support .

Does your boyfriend know you are having this procedure?

I just talked to him about it this morning. Why?

I leaked quite a lot and it was painful.

PP, are you talking about blood? Other fluid? Would you mind explaining a bit?

Thank you,

OP

Just follow your doctor's instructions. Why are you looking for permission from random strangers in the internet?

Yeah. Your doctor said to wait three weeks. You wait three weeks. Your boyfriend can deal.

Bc people are wondering if you didn't tell him and that's why you don't want to wait. Wait three weeks. It's not a big deal.
