can I leave carpet on the stairs then laminate in the rooms and the hallway?

I have boys. Boys who are now teens and who are very loud when they walk. If our stairs had been uncarpeted, DH and I would have lost our minds. Besides that, I had two friends who fell down their beautiful wood staircases and broke bones. Our stairs will remain carpeted. I could care less what anyone else thinks about it.

Our stairs are not carpeted and no one has ever fallen on them. I prefer that look, but do what you want.

+ Runners are usually thin and slippery, and they look SO dated. Even if you have a nice carpet like YHL, they still remind me of grandma's house. What's next? Are you going to put plastic on them?

We have beautiful wood stairs with a runner down the middle. It's the best of both worlds. The runner is great for not slipping. Helps babies and dog (my dogs are furry and slip down uncarpeted stairs).

Maybe the runners you've seen. Mine are thick and have regular padding underneath.
