Petty In-Law and/or house guest vents

Complain all you want but I better not see a thread started by you about how lonely you are! You either learn to deal with people's idiocyncracies or you deal with loneliness.

Gross!! We don't do shoes inside the house so this is their bare skanky feet rubbing into the upholstery (shoes doing this would be worse of course but both are totally unacceptable in my view). who does this???

If you make them take their shoes off, their feet get cold. Offer each a clean pair of slippers and they will stop using your furniture to keep their feet warm.

My MIL wanted to film my 2 year old going potty today so his 9 year old cousin could watch over FaceTime and was out out when I said no. This is after they had already been on a FaceTime call with said cousin for nearly an hour.

I hate it when people (my in-laws) put bags, like handbags or backpacks, on furniture. I know you had that on the floor of the bathroom at the airport and now it's on my new;y upholstered chair? Who doesn't put a bag on the floor (or a chair without fabric)? Does this make me crazy?

Well...it does sound a little neurotic on your part.

I figured. I grew up in an old house with lots of antiques. I think my ideas of how to treat furniture, wood floors, and the like are different from most people's.

I never put my handbag on the floor, not anywhere. It's not sanitary.

Seriously: just be grateful your in laws care enough to visit. It's sad when they hate you.

Anonymous wrote:This is terribly petty, but I can't stand when my in-laws leave dishes in the sink. I know it's better than if they left them elsewhere in the house, but they fill their bowls/cups/plates with water and let them sit, and it's up to me to dump the standing water and load the dishwasher.

They also have a habit of putting any leftover food morsels in fridge -- 1/4 bottle of water, 1/2 of a Starbucks, a bite of muffin, etc. Then never eating/drinking any of it. I can see if they wanted to eat it again but they never do.

Soaking dishes sound like a reasonable thing to do. If I had to wash them, soaking first is the way to go. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

There are a lot of intolerant, messed up, control freaks on this board. Good grief, I sincerely hope my kids are wise enough not to marry someone like these posters.

Me too. I LOVE having houseguests. I don’t care if they don’t always clean up after themselves or put their feet or bags on furniture. There is no piece of furniture in my house more precious to me than my family and friends. When they come to my house, I want it to be like a little vacation for them. I don’t mind doing a little extra work to make sure they are comfortable, well fed, and happy. And, they would do the same for me.

So are your ideas about how to treat handbags and backpacks.
