Laundry: IT IS NEVER DONE

Anonymous
I kept a laundry list this year. Every time we washed a load, I wrote it down. It worked out to one load per day, even though we don't usually do laundry every day. (We are 5 and I have little kids, two of whom like to roll in either dirt or food.) So I've decided that I can just keep going doing a pile of laundry every few days. Sure, I could do a load per day, but it isn't efficient because I don't have a whole load of one type. And who really wants to wash darks and towels together anyway?

Put together a laundry schedule and once that's done, it is done for a few days. I tend to do 4 or so loads on a Sunday, then another 3 on Wednesday or so.

Don't let it make you crazy!

Laundry like dish washing and cooking is an everyday chore in my house. I have tried all combinations of doing laundry and have realized that I need to do it every day.

I have also replaced all the colored bedlinens, towels, kitchen towels and bath mats with plain white ones. I can do them together in the hottest water and bleach, so it is easier to manage.

+1. Good idea on getting all white stuff!!

Me too on the every day plan. I do sheets and towels weekly, so on Wednesday I do 3 loads. It is really life-changing once you get in the habit, I think. I'm also doing laundry for a family of 4, and it's so much easier than when I used to do it every few days. That way in the event I get busy with other stuff and need to miss a day, getting back on track is easy.

We do all white too. Towels, sheets, pillows, and duvet covers.

I need an Alice in my house! She could do laundry, dishes, and pick up meat from Sam the butcher. Oh Alice, where are you?

I wash 2-3 sinks full of dishes every day bc I hate the dishwasher. It kind of sucks. I also have the never ending laundry chore like op,but laundry doesn't bother me as much because it smells so good and I love clean clothes.

The chores I hate: cleaning the bathroom. My DH is nasty and doesn't clean up after himself at all. The bathroom that he uses is so gross. I rarely use it and choose to use the main bathroom instead of the one in our room. I also get tired of cleaning the floors which seem to get dirty again minutes after I clean them.

Hmm. If you come over and do my laundry, I will clean your bathroom.

Laundry is my most dreaded chore. I would way rather vacuum and dust. I do batches of laundry and always end up forgetting the last load & have to rewash it because it starts smelling bad. Maybe I should have my cleaning lady do the laundry and I clean the house?

Fucking hate washing and folding sheets. For a family of 5, no small feat.

Laundry is basically never ending in my house. I go through spurts and do multiple loads a day, but they don't get upstairs. Then I have days where I take a couple hours and put everything away. Obviously my method is flawed. Why the fuck do they put washers and dryers in the basement!?!?! If they were in the same level as the bedrooms it would be so much easier.

Dishes bother me way worse than laundry though, we use paper plates 80% of the time

For me it is the endless cycle of cooking and cleaning up. Between meal prep, cooking, cleaning up, washing dishes, I feel like I spend my life in the kitchen.

Oh, and packing my sons lunch. For some reason I dread that the most.

I'm always on top of actually doing the laundry, but sometimes I'll have 6 loads of clean laundry waiting in baskets to be folded. I fold when my kid is in the bathtub, because that's time when I can't really go anywhere. She plays; I sit outside the open door and fold. I can usually fold 2-3 loads per bath.

22:38 here - the thing I hate is feeling like I have to cook. Left to my own devices, I'd get takeout every day. I love takeout. i can spend the evening with my child, pick up food in 5 minutes and relax. I can eat 7 different cuisines a week and have awesome leftovers. I wish I made a little more money so I could rationalize daily takeout.

I am seeing many homes with washer/dryer at the same level as the bedrooms. Many people are remodelling that way too. It is the most sensible place for it.

I also find laundry to be the never ending chore. Right now have giant pile of undone stuff sitting in my laundry room. And giant container of clean stuff that never gets out away. I usually get dressed by laundry room.

My theory is that if men were responsible for laundry there would be better tech solution by now. Automatic washers, robots, something.

We need woman tech person to find a solution.

lol I wish! I'd do a thousand loads of laundry a week for you if you'd come to my house once a week and clean this one small bathroom! I don't even mind cleaning the main bathroom, it's just the lack of maintenance in between cleanings that makes it such a gross chore for me!
