| I flew South America San Francisco via Miami at 32 weeks in business. It was fine. But it was business. |

Here's my scenario: business class, 30 weeks, flight to developing country in Asia, but would be in major city in 4 star hotel the entire time, with access to well-connected local people.
PPs who walked, did you have some point of solid sleep? This is what worries me, falling back asleep for 6 hours or so and not walking during that time. Would you take this trip? I felt fine for my entire last pregnancy, energy levels were good, and stayed very active. |
In business class it's less of an issue sleeping because your feet are elevated. Recognize the risk of DVT, but realize it's a bigger deal in a coach seat. I would NOT do this trip in coach while pregnant, in business or first - in a heartbeat. Of course, I've never had 6 hours of sleep on an airplane, so take my advice for what it's worth. I would worry about the developing country part though (I'm the PP who did Tokyo and Seoul). Does your company have a medical department you can talk to? Are malaria meds needed? Any strange vaccines you would need? I wouldn't get Japanese encephalitis vaccine while pregnant, for example (it's probably not even allowed then). |
| For those who wouldn't fly coach because they can't elevate their legs, do you elevate your legs while sitting at your work desk? Serious question. I don't, but get up to walk around once an hour. I guess I don't see how an 8hr flight is really that different provided you make sure to get up. But maybe I should be elevating my legs all day at my desk and didn't know! |
| Not after 24 weeks. If I'm having a micro preemie, I want it to be in the U.S. |

No, I would not do it. I regularly fly to Asia (14 hr, then 7 hr flight) to a developing country, and DH really advocated against it during my pregnancies.
There are a lot of health risks in developing countries that it's safer to avoid exposing a fetus to. The flight is a DVT risk, but if you walk around a lot I think you'd be okay in business class. |
