Any new ideas or personal experience? 5 year old having a rough time adjusting

Anonymous
Many kids have a rough adjustment to K even without a major change at home. My kid was exhausted and cranky until January and she got to take a nap at school after lunch in K, had 2 recesses per day, plus PE 2 or 3 days per week. I had two friends with kids who did not even out until March and have known many other families whose kids did not come into their own for a few months after school started.

She had a substantial snack after school and then played in aftercare. I kept after school time very relaxed. No structured activity. Just down time and maybe a play date here and there.

A thought...do you think there is maybe a protein deficiency? Maybe he needs a little snack, yogurt, string cheese around 3:00 so that he has enough fuel?

Help him to process his emotions and then give him opportunity to let it go. Hugs mama, sorry that you are dealing with this alone.

I'm trying. He's usually very articulate and well-behaved. We hit a wall around 5pm, however, when he starts to act more like an overtired two or three-year-old, and it's hard to rein it in. At least he's sleeping ok! So far, anyway.
