Are these normal family interactions?

No Asian would ever call his sister a stripper. I can get my bottom dollar this family us not Asian.

When I first read that -- I thought close knit ethnic family -- Italian, Greek, whatever -- a family that's together all the time and jokes around like that without hurting each others' feelings. I can almost picture the Sunday dinners in that house -- fun and lighthearted, and maybe every once in a while someone throws on some music and some dancing breaks out.

You seem really messed up.

I'm so messed up that I laugh. A lot. I'm happy.

Funny, you actually sound like a bitter, judgmental DCUM bitch troll. I'm sure you think you're a right ray of sunshine though!

OP, I get that it's not how you would interact. But it seems like it's working for them. Which means it is FUNCTIONAL, not DYFUNCTIONAL. Functional means it works for all family members. Period. It doesn't mean it's a Hallmark Card.

Op I think you have been on dcum too long. These people sound amazing. My kinda people , you know real people who can actually take a joke and not get offended when someone tells them they go to a lot of amusement parks.

I think this is normal and funny, and you seem uptight. Sorry!

Haha yup. Sounds like my friend's Italian family. I only wish my family could be as functional and close as them. IlL never forget the day I joined in on their dynamics. My family is pretty uptight so it was definitely a bit of an adjustment to be around hers but it was always funny. Still, I never engaged with the Jokes until one day I blurted out one that didn't even make sense. They all stopped and then burst out laughing and to this day I (and now DH) are Included in all their jokes.

Normal.

Maybe they are what all those bad sitcoms on based on. They sound like "Married with Children"

It's not a dynamic I would especially enjoy, but if everyone genuinely found it funny and was participating, then it sounds like that's just how their family interacts. It's only dysfunctional if people are really hurt or unhappy by the behavior.

Working class trading insults for fun. Totally normal

Not weird at all.

Better to joke as a family than not. Sounds fine to me.
