substitute teacher

I can't tell you the amount of subs I've seen this year that don't speak enough English to communicate with the students, ones who sit at a desk all day and don't even bother to read plans, ones who scream at the kids the second they walk in the door. It's been atrocious. Has FCPS relaxed the qualifications? I'm afraid to take leave anymore.

It's what, $14 an hour part-time work and no benefits? They can't be too picky.

They get paid to do a job. It's not great pay but they agreed to do the job for that much money. I really don't know how some of them make it past HR with a lack of English, but somehow they do.

I'm a parent sub. It's indeed $14/hour, and my district requires references and a college transcript.

I have a personal policy of not subbing in any class in which I have a child, but the school itself is fine.

LCPS has the worst subs. Some schools rely on subs to a shocking degree. They use so many long term subs and they clearly aren't the same quality as the teachers.

No s*|t Sherlock. Anybody who takes a job agrees to do it for a certain amount of money. Just don't be surprised at the lack of quality in some of the takers.
