All promotions have downward affects; it's the "executive" part that is grating.

Let me guess: you are not an Executive?
Well, my Hubby is, and I can tell you from experience that the Transition was a difficult one in many ways. Though we are very blessed in our new situation, it did involve new friends, a new house, new foods, and a new and enriched Etiquette. Anonymous fora can be a Godsend in this regard.

But not all Executive roles are the same are they? They don't all earn the same money, they don't all travel/socialize the same amount. They certainly don't all live in the same houses and eat the same food. I would imagine a lot depends on the industry type too. And hasn't the family been around during the Executive's ascent, too? It seems they would be somewhat used to the routine already??

Wife of an executive here. If you had that much difficulty transitioning to fit in, you probably still don't.

I can see why a non-executive might think these things. But no - if and when your family attains Executive status, you will understand.
It must all seem very confusing to you now.

The whole family gets promoted to Executive? Shit you are right, I missed that part. I need to update my preschooler's business cards and name plate.

Yes, very. But that's interesting to know.

"Executive" =/= Brahmin, nor is it some ennoblement that suddenly grants you the key to the "Executive Washroom."

People move into the C-suite in a lot of different ways, and it means different things depending on the company/organization.

I am loving the ratio of earnest to parody in this thread.

Are any of the above posts serious? It all reads like a parody to me...

Is it parody? I hope so because I'm getting scared.

This reminds me when my General Counsel was promoted. His wife immediately began sending tasker emails, and would snail mail receipts and instructions to his EA. I cannot tell you how pissed the EA was! We all had a good laugh.

After a couple of months he finally got the nerve to go reign his wife in.

My sense is that 10:18, for example, is serious. Could be wrong...

What is an EA? I really do not know.

I found the OP of the original executive thread (OP-TOET), a little gauche and awkward. Still, I thought that it is better she is awkward on DCUM than IRL.

However, the diatribe against her was mocking, vicious and mean-spirited. It was very elitist in the worst possible way and the same time it also reeked of jealousy and bitterness. The barbs were also aimed at SAHMs for no earthly reason.

All in all, I realized I prefer the OP-TOET than all the mean posters. At least she is not a bitch.

As for the others, well, the fact is that OP=TOET and her family has something good happening to them, regardless of how much you mock her. So in the end, she wins.
