Changing table on dresser

Thanks DCUM. I knew my mom was overthinking this. I feel validated.

Or ask her ok where do we put it... She will see the room had no space and maybe shut it

We had a dedicated changing table until recently, then we switched to a changing pad on a dresser (Hemnes 8-drawer) and it's completely fine. Pretty much exactly the same as before. We keep wipes, diapers, and diaper cream in a basket next to the pad.

My mom is in town and is driving me nuts by saying that it's going to be very had to change the baby on top of the dresser. She want to know where will I put the diapers, wipes, creams, etc, in a place where the baby won't kick them off? Who has BTDT and how did you set up your change table on top of your dresser? Do you have a shelving unit set up next to it? Or did you just put diapers in the top drawer?

(I'm really not seeing what the big deal is here, but I'm having trouble explaining what my game plan is to my mom so she'll get off my back!)

For reference, we have the IKEA hemnes 8 drawer dresser, and I was going to buy the Keekaroo changing pad.

Is this the dresser you have, OP? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60245368/ If so, we have the same one and it is plenty long enough to put diapers, wipes, etc. next to the changing pad on top of the dresser in a little diaper caddy/basket or just out on the dresser if you don't want to use up drawer space/for easier access. I don't see why this would be a problem in the least. I'd personally rather have the diaper supplies out on the dresser so you don't have to be opening drawers while holding the baby still as baby gets older/more mobile. If you want to use the top of the dresser space for other things or if it is more convenient, maybe get some wall hanging pockets/diaper storage that you can hang on the wall: http://www.kmart.com/munchkin-diaper-change-organizer/p-024W034188110001P?sid=KDx01192011x000001&pla&kpid=024W034188110001&kispla=024W034188110001P&kpid=024W034188110001 and just hang them up on the wall right next to the diaper changing area.

We bought a dressing topper like this one (we bought ours at the restoration hardware outlet for $75). Works perfectly...

We have shelves above the dresser with diapers, wipes, nosefrida, saline, that sort of thing. We keep our Amazon box of diapers right by the dresser since we go through them so quickly!

We just bought a hemnes 8 drawer dresser for our nursery. I'm not due until September, so we haven't had a chance to really use it yet but if you google hemnes dresser nursery you will find a lot of blogs and pictures of others that have used it as a changing table as well.

I bookmarked this blog post as inspiration for when I get around to organizing all of the drawers:

Another vote for using a portable mat and changing the baby anywhere. The only time it sucked was when we changed him on the bed and he peed on our sheets. Rookie mistake!

Same. Worked well. But I was not one to have lots of unnecessary stuff so I didn't need all of the dresser space.

This. Use a rug pad to prevent the changing pad from slipping, and you can get one of these for the side of the dresser if you need to. http://www.walmart.com/ip/DEX-Baby-Baby-Diaper-Tolietries-Organizer/15442454?action=product_interest&action_type=title&item_id=15442454&placement_id=irs-106-m2&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id&category=&client_guid=1356e852-0e90-4581-877d-ad739d8ea92c&customer_id_enc&config_id=106&parent_item_id=4457083&parent_anchor_item_id=4457083&guid=f93838ce-a742-4612-a247-300554da01e7&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&beacon_version=1.0.1&findingMethod=p13n

This is our plan, with a changing pad on top of a hemnes dresser...actually I think hemes has a special thing you can put on top on which you can put the changing pad...agreed, the diapers etc go next to it on top or in drawers...

We looked at the option of just putting the changing pad on top of a dresser, but decided to go with a nice dresser/thing from IKEA that has a top that turns into a table space. We think it looks really nice folded up as a regular piece of furniture, too.

I did the diapers in the top drawer with the pad on top. I am right-handed, so I put the pad on the left side of the dresser and the accessories in the drawer below. Super easy.

Changing pad on top of dresser and this (http://www.amazon.com/Prince-Lionheart-Dresser-Diaper-Depot/dp/B00006408K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437790889&sr=8-1&keywords=Prince+lionheart+dresser) for organizing diapers, wipes and creams. Although he was very wiggly from an early age and most of the time, I just changed him on the floor or our bed.
