Op- DC is a small city and you have basically outed yourself on this board numerous times. Be careful what personal info you put out on a public forum.

OP, please recognize that this board is not representative of DCPS as a whole. There are a lot of families who do not read it who are dedicated to their kids' educations. Until a few years ago, by and large wealthy families moved to the suburbs when they had children, mostly because of the schools. That is changing, but the reality is that the change has mostly been for younger kids. Your older daughter may be the only middle or high SES kid in her class. If you're white, she may be the only white kid in her class. My daughter is going into kindergarten and last year, she was one of two white kids in her class of 20. This didn't bother me, but on this board, a lot of concern is expressed about a child being an "only" or being the only high SES or high achieving kid. Those comments will be a lot more relevant to your older daughter's experience than to your younger child's.

The reality is that the charter lottery is a long shot at best. If you are not comfortable with the reality as laid out above, you should be looking at private schools, because your chances of getting into a charter are incredibly slim.
