You can call the school to find out if your child is a walker of bus rider. The bus schedules are usually mailed about a week or less before school starts. At our ES, class assignments usually come out the night before school starts or the night before open house the Friday before school starts. At our school, they are posted on the entry doors by teacher listing First names and last initial.

I am sure this is revisted every year but that seems so last minute to me.

I'm sure that FCPS, the 11th largest school system, with 1700 buses in its fleet, would gladly accept your suggestions for how to put our their routes much earlier. Please avail them of your professional insights and show them the way.

Not impressed by the fact that it is the 11th largest school system in the country. But since they just called me to get me off the wait list for before care, I am forced to make a call as to whether I need before care without knowing when the buses leave. Providing parents, some of whom are just moving to the area, with last years schedule to give them an idea shouldn't be the hardest thing in the world even for a school system that is only the 11th largest school system.

Some people pull there kids out of private at the last minute, or enroll in private...

With the budget problems, the county is trying to get the kids to school in the optimal manner.

OP here, I get why it's an issue since I am also moving into the school system (which is why I can't ask my neighbors- I haven't even finished moving in yet). It just surprising at first to realize how late I would be getting the information.I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed any information that had already been sent out

Hedge you bets, sign up for before care you can always quit if it works out with the bus. Bus schedules have been known to change after school starts.

Of course you can ask neighbors. Go out and walk around, introduce yourself and talk to them. IME, the bus schedules basically stay the same from year to year (within 15 minutes)- plus the local neighbors will know if the official pickup time is the actual one or if it is usually early or late.

Whoa, whoa! So you're saying that you've asked FCPS for last year's bus schedule, and you were refused? Or is it that you think that the school system should just have been proactive and sent you one because they know that you can't check in with your neighbors or ask the school directly for last year's schedule? My guess is that it's the latter and that you're being very high maintenance at the beginning of July.

Bus schedules have always been pretty late. Don't know why. They start making trail runs in late August.

This year, I would expect them to be even later due to the wholesale changes in school start times. I would also expect them to change once school starts.

Recommend: check your school's start time, and work back from that. I would guess anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour depending on how close you are to the school.
