Recommended elementary schools in Vienna

Another Vienna to Reston commuter here. It usually takes me less than 20 minutes. On days when there's traffic it takes me ... 25 minutes.

OP here, thanks for all the inputs. I see that some areas in Vienna are zoned for Mosby Woods as well. Any opinions on Mosby woods?

It has very large classes, but it's an awesome school.

Curious to why anyone thinks it is terrible. We have been happy there.

Not as great as a reputation as others- I am sure families are happy there but it's not considered one of the top Vienna ones.

It's near Route 7 and the Dulles Toll Road, so convenient to the Reston, and it's zoned for an AAP center (Colvin Run) that feeds into the McLean schools (Longfellow/McLean).

And Cooper/Langley.

It's not really considered a Vienna school. Most of the kids go to Fairfax or Oakton High. People who go there though know it doesn't have the same problems that a lot of Vienna schools have like class size. It has more FARM students, so some people don't like that. It actually has very good test scores though.

I read this and thought -did I write this and forgot about it? But actually that statement is not my style. Though I can't say I disagree that much.

I know of no parts of Vienna zoned for Mosby woods -- except the AAP students from Marshall Road. And it will take another 5-10 minutes to get to reston vs. center to NW vienna.

I believe test scores are high because they made it an AAP Center, but don't quote me on that. Used to live near there, and the area is very close to Vienna Metro (walking distance), which is normally great. But if you're commuting to Reston, you'd be driving, and as a PP pointed out, this area of Vienna (almost Oakton) actually puts you farther from Reston.

Any inputs on Sunrise Valley in Reston? It seems to be close enough to Vienna that the commute to Tyson's won't be too bad.

Sunrise Valley's a good school. It's an AAP Center, and fairly diverse.

Thanks, how about Hughes middle school? Since my older son is 2 years away from middle school, we need to think about middle too.

Mosby IS a vienna school. all base kids go to OHS. Only aap kids from fairfax go to FHS. Homes in Vienna that feed to Mosby are on par with any area in vienna price wise. We've been very happy. AAP center is great. LJ AAP center is top notch. OHS is very sought after.
