Why do women need so many shoes?

Anonymous
I probably have 15 pairs of shoes and my husband thinks it's nuts. I keep telling him I am on the low side!

We are told to change heel heights three times a day and not to wear same shoes two days in a row. That means six different pairs of shows. We need black, shoes in leather and patent leather, navy blue, bone, red, white and special colors to go with special outfits and we need all of these in different heel heights. We need shoes for evening, work, walking, shoes to wear with casual attire, work apparel and, most importantly, extremely comfortable shoes to wear when shopping for shoes.

I hope this helps you.

OP how many does she have? Mine are as follows - I'm not a shoe person but this is what I feel I "need"

- Work heels and flats in a couple different colors. When I need to be dressy/extra sharp I wear heels because I'm short, but I much prefer to wear the flats. I use these same heels for formal events like weddings

- Weekend type shoes - casual tennis shoes, and a couple pairs of flats / sandals / boots depending on the season and bottom half of my outfit (e.g., chunky winter flats look awful with shorts, flipflops are great in summer but you need a dressier pair of sandals too for going out to dinner). There are probably 3 pairs of casual type shoes I actively wear each season to cover the range of level of dressiness so ~ 10 total

- Workout shoes - running shoes that I try to only wear for running since they're $$$ and a different workout pair. I also save my old running shoes for wearing for dirty things like yard work

Does that help?

Shoe styles change with each season, e.g., type of heel, "in" colors for a particular season. So many reasons. Give up, accept, and you will be happier.

Thanks in advance.

i own about 4 shoes/season. Usually add one pair a season. How can I not? There are gorgeous shoes every sesaon and they look so pretty with my new clothes! I only spend about $200/season on shoes. And they last a while.

In 5 years you will be posting... my wife does not dress sexy anymore. Why does she only where yoga pants and tennis shoes?

Whaaaaa? I have two pairs of black dress flats, one pair of black heels, two pairs of sandals, one pair of flip flops, black sneakers, and white sneakers. I have never owned patent leather, navy blue, bone, red, white, or any special colored shoes and I don't have any different heel heights.

Your sense of "need" is pretty distorted.

Because shoes are an ultimate equalizer. So many great outfits and design features are only available to the genetically blessed - the tall, the narrow-hipped, the long-legged, the high-waisted, the perfectly proportioned, the hourglass-shaped, the pencil-shaped, the full-breasted, the list goes on. The shoes only require that the woman has feet. The short, fat and ugly and the tall, slim and fair can enjoy a great pair of shoes with equal vigor. The barrier to entry with shoes is far, far lower and therefore even women who can't wear exciting clothes CAN wear fabulous shoes.

Same goes for purses, jewelry, nail polish, fake nails, and hair stuff. Equal opportunity for the fat and ugly women!

I have way more shoes than my wife. Just got a sweet pair of Adidas Superstars from the Pharrell color pack. Maybe you need more shoes in your life, OP?

My teen DD also likes to buy shoes all the time. I can do with just a few flat shoes for work, 1 pair of running shoes, and 2 pairs of sandals (I've had one pair for over 20 years - high quality leather that are just now seeing their last days). So as a woman, I also don't "get" the shoe thing.

Pp, just curious, you don't have winter boots? Rain boots? Any sort of pumps?

Because they are insecure and vain. I have 2 pairs of shoes I regularly wear, and probably 5 pairs total.

And before I get insulted, many of my friends compliment how fashionable I am. I just need about 2 shoes per season.
