+1 Mine watches short youtube clips of elmo, sesame street songs, nursery rhymes, and the like. I tried to get her to watch an episode of Daniel Tiger (12 minutes) and she wanted to do something else about half way through. She loves books, and they are available to her all the time, whereas videos only come out once a day. |
We started with clips of Sesame Street songs or skits. We just say no if she wants to watch and we don't want her to. Sometimes she she fusses, sometimes she accepts no. Limits are relaxed if she's sick. |
Daniel Tiger is awesome. The show has a jingle for every common situation for 2 and 3 year olds. |
14:57 here. And she still loves books. |
So it really is true that someone else is raising your child. THAT's what's sad. |
I didn't allow it until 6 or 7. Exceptions were Facetiming with relatives (sometimes once a week, sometimes once a month) and when they were sick, showing them a cute Youtube video of like, pandas going down a slide or a slideshow of baby animals.
But I had zero burning desire to show them Winnie the Pooh or Disney movies or anything. They're 8 and 11 now and rarely watch tv unless it's a specific show or movie (Master Chef Jr, and So You Think You Can Dance come to mind). Their reading did not decrease. |
DC started watching around 3 when DC2 was born. I needed 20 minutes of quiet to bf or make dinner. He still loved books. Sometimes he watched more. My strict rules changed quickly to keep my sanity and everything was fine. |
We started introducing it around 3. Coincidentally also when he moved out of the crib and into a regular bed, since he woke up much earlier lol. We let him watch videos on the ipad for 40 minutes or so on weekend mornings. He only gets them in the morning. He still loves "reading"
He asks for videos sometimes when we don't want him to watch. I say no and he screams, but gets over it. |
Oh pp here. My kid does not watch high quality shows. he loves watching you tube videos of people unwrapping toys. Kids are weird. |
Curious George and Yo Gabba Gabba. 1/2 hour show every few days. Then it became daily. We did pre-recorded shows for YEARS before letting him see something that was scheduled programming. That way I could preview and make sure it was OK.
No drop in reading time until he was introduced to Minecraft at age 7. Then we had some issues. |
The "long run" doesn't officially start until after they are four and out of the tantrum phase. Why show a preschooler a chocolate cake they cannot have? Simply doesn't make sense. |
Oh stop, Idiot. You are embarrassing yourself. PP takes her nanny's opinion into consideration. As all good managers of people do. Now go back to your hole. |
Mine is a few months over 2. We are not doing anything. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Vaguely thinking "family movie night" around 3 or 4, maybe. |
Don't respond to her again, PP. She is the fat troll from the nanny forum. I recognize her style of writing. |
We started off by watching Daniel Tiger on a lap top one night when she was really ill and couldn't sleep. She didn't show much interest in it. She does, however, ask us to look up you tube videos of things such as horses or turtles - whatever her obsession of the week is. |
