Moving to DC: Full-day preschools for 3-yr old in NW?

Franklin Montessori and Aidan Montessori both have afterschool programs and are both terrific.
Franklin may be slightly easier to get a space in because it is newer to the area...

both are very popular and have long waitlists this year though

We have loved the DCJCC this year and it is supposedly less expensive than some other full day schools - I'd definitely check it out.

Have you looked at the Bright Horizons website, they have various locations around downtown and you may be able to find an opening for Sept.

You may be able to get a slot at Just us Kids or Thurgood Marshall (near Union Station).

The SEC Bright Horizons (connected to Union Station) also is worth checking out. It's only been open for a year and a half, and it's had some growing pains, but the facility is fabulous and the director seems very strong. It also may be about to expand from one preschool room to two, and thus have slots available when you need one.

Good luck!

Deadlines have past for Little Folks for Fall '09.

Try Communikids in Tenlytown - they are starting a full-day language immersion preschool next year so probably a fair number of spots. Not sure application deadlines though.

How would one learn about the Communikids program? I don't see anything on their website.

Our child has been in the 2s program this year and loves it! Very warm environment and they are moving to a new larger space this spring a short walk from the metro.

Hope this helps!

It has a great playground. Westmoreland Children's Center is oa daycare/preschool n the DC/MD border at Massachusetts and Western (7:30 am to 6). Huckleberry Cheesecake in south Dupont circle (20th and M) is a daycare/preschool at 3 years old and goes 8 to 6. The wait is long for infants but at 3 years old might be significantly shorter.

My DCs have gone to the camp at Children's House in the summer and loved it. Everyone there is a great.

We LOVE Children's House. It's a little secret in Georgetown.

Regarding the All Saints confusion above:

What was formerly All Saints All Day is now known as Wonders Child Care. They have a wonderful program which would definitely fit your needs - core day with before and after care for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds, currently located at All Saints Episcopal Church on Chevy Chase Circle. In the fall, that center will move to the Washington Ethical Society at 16th St. & Kalmia Road NW in DC, and All Saints Church will run its own, not as useful to you schedule-wise preschool at the church.

School for Friends may be an option if you have an older 3 year old as it is often hard to fill the Quaker House given that preK is free in DC

There's not much information about Children's House on its website (consistent with remaining a secret, I suppose). Do they have open houses, is there information at the school if you just drop by, or do you call to set up a tour? TIA!
