Us too!

So are we. And we didn't play the PK3 lottery last year.

Lesson learned here? Don't wait to apply to PK4. Entry point is clearly designed to be PK3

Damnit! You're right! We would not be on the waitlist now if we'd lotteried into PK3 at our IB JKLM last year.

Oh wait.

You need to lobby Cheh to go against inertia and make jklm carve out space for PK3.

A LARGE majority of the 1000 PK4 that didn't get in anywhere are at a school already. My guess they are at a pretty good school since the median # of schools on application is 4. That means they are likley already at a top 5 school and looking to "move up"

Not all of course, but MOST.

Then what's the reasoning that the PK3 median is also 4. That was the one data point that really surprised me. Did people not apply to 12 schools?

Signed- the most unlucky person in the world shut out 2 years running after putting 12 schools on the list including some that everything else said were safety schools

And that's true of those who did get matched, and thus they will release spots at the schools that they currently attend in order to "move up" to the school they lotteried into. That's why I would expect more overall movement at PK4 than at PK3--people trade up but then release a spot. No one in PK3 is already holding a spot when they play the lottery.

I can't speak for everyone, but I only put 2 schools on our list. They had to be workable with my commute to work, which I do on foot/Metro. There was no point in me adding additional schools because we would have just stayed in daycare for another year and then entered our IB at K.

I suspect many PK3 families that have sibling preference that only select 1-2 schools is driving down the median for PK3. You didn't get into your IB? WOTP? Did you apply to AT? What #?

Good luck dear.

For me I knew we would get into our IB school, which takes all IB applicants, so I knew that I only had to put the couple of schools that I preferred over my IB option. (Because of commute, there weren't many.)

Damnit! You're right! We would not be on the waitlist now if we'd lotteried into PK3 at our IB JKLM last year.

Oh wait.

So how many schools did you lottery for? The WotP schools that can't accommodate all IB children for PK are pretty well known, so unless you are new to town you know if you have a good chance or a 50-50 chance or little chance to get in and depending on your chances should have lotteried for other schools (what hopefully have better odds, not equal or worse odds).

You missed the sarcasm.

I didn't miss it at all. I get it. You are IB for an upper NW school that doesn't have PS3. You said you're waitlisted for PK and I was curious to know where else you lotteried since it's widely known that many upper NW schools can't accommodate all their IB families, so unless you have a sibling Already at the school (and even then it's not a guarantee) you likely anticipated possibly being waitlisted. If you don't get in what are you doing next year? Private Preschool?
