Downcounty schools

Why would you leave Singer? ?

Flora Singer and Oakland Terrace both pull from 20902 zip codes, as well. The community names in the area between Forest Glen Road and Dennis Avenue (on the west side of Georgia Avenue) are Carroll Knolls and McKenney Hills.

As a PP indicated, it depends how long you are looking to stay put for. If you have MS or HS kids or want to avoid moving in a few years, you need to focus primarily on the HSs and what is acceptable to you. At least 2 of the 5 Downcounty high schools have serious issues. Another 2 are discussed on here in mixed terms.

It's too bad - i really like our ES and DC is very happy there but we will need to move soon since MS and HS are just nonstarters in our zone. It's really unfortunate that the ESs suffer the some of the price for the MS and HS being so awful in terms of people avoiding the pyramid or moving mid-ES.

+1. Not only is the school great, but the neighborhood is very friendly, too!

Yes! We are moving and I am so sad that my kids have to leave Singer. Great teachers. Great facility. Great support staff. Great admin. Great families. Great KAH program. What am I forgetting? I love my neighborhood, too - so many awesome friendly neighbors and a short 15 min walk to Forest Glen Metro!

Keep an eye on the 20901 upcoming listings

Woodlin (20910) is the top elementary school in the downtown Silver Spring area. A great school, great community, great PTA!

We love Woodlin! Also have heard good things about Flora Singer, Highland View, and Forest Knolls.

why don't I hear anything about Glen Haven ES? it's like a mile away from Flora Singer and Forest Knolls...

You don't hear about Glen Haven because it's not as good as those other schools you mentioned.

How do you know this? What is your first-hand experience with Glen Haven?
Anonymous
I do not have first hand experience with Glen Haven but live very close and know many people who live in that neighborhood, including people who have gotten a COSA to a neighboring school and families who have decided to leave before K. Also know families desperate to get into immersion. These people are all fine with schools like OTES and Singer but not ok with Glen Haven.

Of course, maybe they are acting out of fear or outdated information but it definitely does not have the same reputation as the other schools.
