Trying to find the name of a song - artist Darius Rucker

You know times have changed when a black guy singing about smoking a joint is played on country radio, and nobody even seems to notice.

Smoking a joint isn't new to country music, and he seems to just be Darius Rucker... it doesn't matter what color he is.

I loved something he said in an interview. He used to tell his son that he could be anything he wanted in America, except for President or a country music artist. Now neither one is true.

Yeah he's even been inducted into the Grand Ol Opry!

i'm no country music fan, really far from it. but i love that he is so comfortable w/who he is. i'm an AA woman and its refreshing that he makes music that he loves, enjoys and is good at it.

Really? Wow, that was fast. Good for him.

Darius Rucker has had a pretty long career. He is a cross over artist (top 40 to country) but actually a lot of artists do that.

I loved Hootie but I love Darius more.

You know who else went country a few years back? Lionel Richie. Check out his "Tuskegee" album, with all his hits re-done in country style with country artists.
He said it's part of his Alabama roots, and that "I'm easy like Sunday morning" is really a country lyric and a country song.

Man, I miss the Commodores, though ....

Ack, I couldn't take that version of Endless Love that he did with Shania Twain. That music video is painful to watch.. Not exactly a country song, I'm really not sure what that was all about.

Adding - Lionel did sound and look good in the video and Shania sounded and looked gorgeous too. But there was something just really awkward about Shania that made the whole video difficult to watch..

Since this is a discussion of Darius Rucker on a parenting board, I must just leave the video for "It Won't Be Like This for Long" here:

He is a country artist now. Not before.

Funny enough I was at one of his shows and he said "here is the first country song I ever wrote...." and he started into "Only Want To Be with You"- bringing me right back to sophomore year HS!

But when I think about it much of his Hootie stuff and current solo stuff sounds very similar- the southern University rock- alt- country jam band sounds of the 90s definitely have some country roots and some country artists now come out of that scene and it all kind of blends together.

I like Darius's songs mostly. "This" is one of my faves.

I just posted above about the Darius show. I don't know why I know all of this shit, but I've seen a lot of shows and stuff chronicling the really close working relationship that Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers have had, Richie wrote "Lady" for Kenny- which I mean who doesn't love that song?!
