They are really coming out now (we have 2). If you are near Bradley blvd in Bethesda, usually many along the wooded road line heading toward Beltway crossover.

Thundercloud plum. Purple flowers starting to drop and deep plum leaves coming out.

When it leafs out and the leaves are not baby leaves, are they green or that sort of black/ burgundy?

No, dark purple-y leaves, I think.

The purple one is the saucer or Chinese magnolia:

OP, if this is your first spring you picked a particularly pretty one. Maybe it's just because the winter was so long increasing the anticipation, but I think this spring is especially colorful.

What's the tree that's been flowering for about a week now, that has big puffy pink pom poms, and the new leaves behind the pom poms are brownish?

I think because the winter was so long, a lot of things ended up blooming at the same time rather than at different times, as would have happened if winter ended earlier. Spring has been compressed.
