What company are good for replacement windows
|
|
Last week I had 30 windows replaced by American Windows. I also got quotes from two others including Nova Installations. Pricing with American was pretty similar to Nova. I went witb American because the Nova guy didn't follow through and send me the quote until I emailed him after waiting 1 week. It seemed like he pulled the quote together based on my email (number was very round ...ie $ xx,000...which made me think he wasn't actually calculating it based on his visit, the trim color he used was obviously a guess unrelated to him seeing my house, and he didn't ever give me the estimate for replacing the other trim as he had said he would.)
A neighbor used them, and was satisfied. But I felt Jim at American windows gave a more specific estimate that I could rely on, responded to my emails when I had questions, provided the estimate immediately, and included a 5'x4' picture window for the same price that Nova gave me. We were talking about the same window brand and model. The crew did a great job. Got it all done in one day (before the snow). Cleaned everything up. And the will fix or repair or replace their windows as long as you own the home. I would reccommend them. But definitely check out a few. |
I replaced all the windows in my townhouse through Home Depot about six years ago. They subcontract the actual work, so it's probably hit or miss in terms of the quality of the install, but I had no complaints about the team that did mine, and the window quality/price compared favorably with the 2 local business I contacted for estimates (well, one local company...the other never got back to me). |
| How much hassle is it to replace windows once you’re moved in and living in a house? Just bought a house that needs windows, but budget is tight and bathrooms/kitchens are not useable and have to be done first. |
| I'm the 30 windows pp. All I had to do was removed the blinds and pull any furniture away from windows. The brackets for blinds stayed. No painting needed after. It was very easy to snap the blinds back up. No clean up needed. |
I would enjoy reading more posts by the PP if she is still around. This post and her earlier one abut buying an urn made my day. |

FYI Window Nation does the same thing as did NOVA Exteriors (not to be confused with NOVA Installations).
I liked Windows on Washington and Window Universe; straight forward no BS on pricing etc. |

They might be a local company but they suck- don’t use them. There sales tactics are awful and their pricing is ridiculously high. For doors- they use provia which a lot of places carry (but TC will tell you that they are the only ones that carry them).
Don’t do it OP! |
| American Screen & Glass did a great job for us replacing our main floor windows. No pressure, quick turnaround, very reasonable prices. We didn't go high-end but they were super to deal with. |

So far I had an APEX guy and a Thompson Creek guy come to my house. The Thompson creek guy's sales tactics were horrible, I couldn't get him to leave. The Apex one was ok in that it was nothing overly pushy. In the case of both, it was just annoying how time consuming the whole thing is.
The Thompson Creek guy did a nice demo showing how heat wasn't getting through the glass so I think his windows may be better than the Apex guy. But I saw somewhere online the whole Thompson Creek pocket window system could be problematic. I'll check out some of the vendors recommended in this post (Windows on Washington, NOVA Installation, etc). |
| Go with American Home Center, they are the best. |
Seriously, I still have nightmares about that guy sleeping in my guest room! The Thompson Creek Windows guys are like vampires, they have to be invited in but once they get inside your home you realize what a horrible mistake you made. Please leave Mr Creek! They won’t leave until they’ve bled you dry. OH MY GOD GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!! We aren’t using you! No seriously, leave. Go. Then comes weeks of phone calls with “factory deals”. I especially loved when the supervisor called and said he was going to make an offer I couldn’t no to....IF IT INVOLVES YOU COMING BACK TO MY HOUSE THEN NO! Never again Thompson Creek. NEVER AGAIN! I’ve got the urn just in case but I’d rather not be in it yet! |
| I agree with that they are priced high. About 5 years ago, got quote from them. Then got quote from Home Depot and told TC. TC came down a bunch on price. It wasn't equal, but it was much better. We went with TC and were happy with the work. Later we did smaller window replacement project with HD and were happy. The one to avoid is Long Fence. They are really annoying/high pressure. |

I’ve noticed that places with decent commercials airing all the time are probably too expensive.

| I know this is an old-ish thread, but wanted to update with my experience with Thompson Creek. Maybe they are desperate for business with current pandemic environment, or maybe we just got a good sales rep. We called in response to a mailer. Guy came out, told us what the "retail" quote is, and that they have 3 levels of sales (10, 15, 20%) off. If you contract during a sales presentation, they can give an extra 5%. They're doing a 30% off "COVID" sale right now to drum up business. At 35% off, they were competitive with Home Depot prices. So, for anyone out there shopping around...if you're talking to Thompson Creek, tell them to knock 25% off their retail price quote and go from there! Maybe that will save some negotiation time! |
