why did Muriel cut DCPS funding?

I say to repeal this deduction!

Wow!!! Just wow...

Pp was being facetious. Right pp?

Nope. Why are seniors more important than children?

Have you been to Cleveland Park? I do not think people who bought their homes for much less deserve a tax break now. I do not think that they should be taking up huge homes when there is a housing shortage in DC.

Sorry but we all must make sacrifices. I know I do.

Also why is it that seniors must stay in large homes? What's so bad about downsizing? What's to prevent a senior from reaping the benefits of this tax credit for years and then selling their house, pocketing money that should have gone to the taxpayers of DC?

Or should we cut social services to the poor, and cut funding to schools so grandma won't move to a condo? Give me a break.

Muriel was just a bad choice for mayor.

PP was probably joking but he or she shouldn't have been. "Seniors" get goodies because they vote, not because it makes economic sense. We should give tax breaks to residents who start new businesses, not the wealthiest age group in town.

At any rate, let's not stop talking about how Bowser cut the funding drastically in the wards that didn't vote for her and increased/accelerated projects in the Wards that did.

Would you have called the previous mayor "Vincent" in your subject heading? Drives me crazy how people demean female politicians by referring to them as their first name when they would never to do that to a man.

Not OP - and no, I wouldn't have - but she still sucks.

In general I agree with your point, but in this case the individual in question likes to be called by her first name. Her campaign website was "murielformayor.com". Her official Twitter account is "@teammuriel". So, while I try to call her Mayor Bowser now, I think people should be given a bit of slack if they refer to her as "Muriel".

Great point too

I'd bet Mayor Bowser wants to cut waste. How else can she do it?

I've seen too many men pontificate about "Hillary" and "Condi" and "Liz" with snark not to be sensitive on this point. I know she ran on "Muriel," but IMO it is still disrespectful to refer to her that way in political debate. Just my pet peeve.

The Mayor has always been clear in her support for our seniors. They have been an important part of her base in Ward 4 and beyond. I don't think we sharpen or further our argument by going after that tax break to fund schools. Let's find something else in the budget (and I don't suggest the streetcar that Ward 6 "neighborhood schools" people see as OK to positive).

The "neighborhood schools" people in high-performing areas of Ward 3, 6 and 2 will have to lead the discussion here. For the most part they don't use, like or understand charter schools but if we link up for both DCPS and high-performing charter schools perhaps the Mayor and her largely silent and unseen Deputy Mayor for Education (former charter leader Jenny Niles) will listen.

Chairman Mendelson and new AG Karl Racine are the other two most important people on the education issue and could be viable Mayoral candidates if they step up where the Mayor and DME do not.
