Gay "marriage" supporters - what is your endgame?

Wasn't even all that difficult.

OP, my endgame as you call it? Allowing two people who are in love to be legally married. Really, it has absolute zero to do with churches or Christians. I couldn't care less how it affects you.

But many churches won't recognize your "marriage". Is that ok with you, or do you want them forced to recognize it?

NP. I have zero interest in other churches' rules regarding gay marriage. That's up to the members of that faith/congregation.

If you seriously think that the government can force churches to do anything in this country, you are indeed insane as Jeff posits above.

Gonna turn your kids gay. The worst kind of gay you can imagine. Your son will literally bump you off the sofa on Superbowl Sunday to watch the Glee reunion show.

But honestly? I am Catholic, and so I have no wish to harm churches. I want to make sure that my brother in law, who has been in a monogamous relationship for twenty odd years, is not treated as scum. That's it. That is honestly it.

I guess the small town pizza parlor getting harassment and death threats is going insane too, right?

Sadly, online threats are a fairly common occurrence and should always be condemned. It is sad that the owners of the pizza parlors had to deal with them. But, gay people have faced a lot more than online threats. Many have actually been killed. So, if you are going to associate me and others who are pro-gay marriage with the online threats, I am going going similarly associate you with the murder of gay men and women.

To allow people to get married.
Your post sounds copied verbatim from the Facebook posts of my conservative friends. Do you really think that is what we are doing? Do you spend your entire day watching cable news and listening to talk radio? It sounds fearful and ignorant.

I've been a church going Christian my whole life. If you want to find something to get outraged about, see what's going on in Kenya this week. THAT's the real deal. Imagining your faith being under siege by folks wanting to get married? That's some weak faith you've got there.

Endgame? To fade into normalcy, and not have to listen to the rantings of douchebags like you.

End game is to normalize homosexuality.

The end game of this whole "gay marriage" thing is to treat others the same way that you yourself would expect to be treated.

Now, who preached that? JESUS for one. And, the Buddha. And, just about every other spiritually enlightened teacher to ever tread this planet.

Beat me to it! That's my end game too. Nah, OP, I we just want to do crazy things like insuring our partners through our workplace health insurance without having to pay taxes on the insurance cost as though it were additional income. Crazy, right?

+1. OP, take this to heart - this is not about you. We find care what you believe, or what your church does. As long as gay people have the same rights as straight people, and are free from hate and discrimination, that's really the end of the discussion.

I agree. I've heard Fox News commentators talk about a "gay agenda." There is no such thing. Just let everyone be free to do her own thing. You are free to worship as you please, and believe whatever you want. Just don't discriminate against others.

I don't care one iota about your beliefs, attitudes, or feelings. I care about equality under the law and I care about your actions. Believe whatever you want. Just leave my family alone and let us live our lives without interference.

Man, I wonder how you'd hold up under actual persecution if you're this hysterical. You wouldn't last ten minutes as a gay person. You have no idea.

Do you understand the difference between a civil marriage and one in a church? Perhaps you should do some reading up.

My husband and I were raised in different denominations and just got a civil marriage rather than one of us converting to the other's church. I'm sure it bothered my grandparents a bit that we didn't have a Catholic wedding but shrug. I couldn't care less about that.

In a few years after gay marriage is "normal" they will start to say that the churches are hate places (hate speechifiers -- they'll come up with a catchier metaphor you can be sure). There will be posters of a gay couple with a cute small child of a different race in front of a church and the child will say, "why do they hate us."

Then they will say, why tax deduction to hate?

That's how they will attack, and you can bet your life on it.

Because it's not just their plan, it's the devil's.

OP clearly doesn't have gay friends. If he did, he would realize that gay marriage is no different than straight marriage. It's two adults in a loving and committed relationship sharing a home, finances, etc. Their families are just like other families. Like my kid said at age 5 when gay marriage was a big political issue on tv: "What's the big deal? A man can marry a woman. A man can marry a man. A woman can marry a woman. Who cares? As long as they are happy, who cares?" If my 5 year old gets it, then why can't the rest of the world?

Honestly, it all comes down to this:

If YOU don't like gay marriage, then YOU simply don't enter into one. Period. But there's no need to concern yourself with who other people marry. It's called live and let live...try it.

But to answer your question, OP: the end game is to see my gay friends welcomed by all religious faiths and political persuasions. It's f'ing 2015 and this is the USA, so you'd think that would be an attainable goal.

Happy Easter/Passover, OP!
