| Why does this just focus on VA schools. Aren't B students going elsewhere? |

Yeah- I think it's some parents wishful thinking that their B kid is getting into JMU. If they do something extraordinary. Like audition for school of music and get in, or play a sport.... B is probably fine. Aside from that I think it's a good idea to expand the college search. Lots of good options if you want stay in state. |
| Actually, A students are going to Tech for certain things, like Engineering. Tech has a very good and very selective Engineering program. |
Some B/B+ kids get into JMU. Others don't. It would not be a good "safety school" choice, in 2008 or today, for a kid who only had a 3.0 in 9th and 10th grade, regardless of SAT scores. |
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Kids with All A's are not necessarily getting into UVA or WM. |
Sorry but there really is no comparison between WM/UVA and VT. VT is more Akin to JMU in terms of selectivity, let's just be honest here. |
Yes but that can be said of a lot of state Us around the country that are just ok overall, but very good in one or two majors... VCU for fine arts would be better than VT/JMU and even UVA/WM for that line of thinking. |
Wouldn't that be the same for Longwood if you're focused on being a teacher? I thought education was Longwood's flagship program. |

Nothing wrong with going to NOVA for two years and transfering to another VA state school!
Also GMU is not as easy to get into as it once was, save for NOVA transfers. |
My A- senior denied at UVA and waitlisted at W&M so it will be JMU, hopefully Honors program. A couple of C+'s freshman year had a long term affect on GPA. |
I had a 3.95 and was waitlisted at UVA, W&M, rejected at JMU. I went to Tech and as a biochem major--it was the best thing for me. JMU ended up paying for my grad school entirely--but I transferred out and finished graduate degree elsewhere because they were seriously lacking in grad level sciences. |
