Did your advanced baby become a gifted child?

One of my kids hit his milestones early, the other very late (didn't talk at all until he was 2 except for "mama"). I think the late talker may actually be the brighter of the two but it is hard to compare because they are good at different things (first is very liberal arts-ish, second very spatial/math oriented).
Our second was a very late walker too, didn't walk until almost 18 months. He had very very good fine motor, though -- he could do very advanced puzzles for his age. It was sort of absurd, this big silent baby who didn't walk but did puzzles. He's still pretty quirky but normal. |

As a baby, I met all intellectual milestones early and all physical ones very late. That pattern continued into adulthood. I remain an unathletic klutz, but I am a physicist with a very long CV. |

| PP here -- forgot to mention, my second is left handed too and there is some research suggesting that left handed and late talking correlate. left handed and both ends of the spectrum (giftedness and LD) also correlate. |

Most school systems use 133 or so for getting into a gifted and talented class. Gifted "schools" generally require higher. 133 isn't genius or anything; it covers around 10% of the population. Also, this city has a pretty high percentage of gifted parents. Just by way of example, mensa has a 133 cutoff (i think?) or alternatively you can get in if you get 95% (i think?) on the LSAT. Almost anyone who goes to one of the better law schools in this city is going to have a 95% on the LSAT. So 90% of the georgetown and GW graduates you meet lately are technically gifted. |

| Language is a better indicator of "gifted" status than the other milestones, although as a PP pointed out, Einstein was late to speak, so nothing is an exact indicator. |

Gifted children and friends also. (went to Harvard if that would be a mark of gifted) Baby began to speak in full sentences at 12 months. simple ones. read at age 3. People magazine. Friend's child: spoke in full sentences from the beginning (no one believed her) read at age 2.5. Violin concert for adults age 6. At Princeton now. |
